Camping culture is booming in China, and Ford has found a clever way to tap into the trend. The automaker’s latest innovation, an electric version of the Bronco, isn’t just built for rugged trails — it’s also designed to turn into a compact living space within seconds.
At the push of a button, the retractable roof lifts by roughly 14 inches, creating extra headroom, while the seats fold flat to form a comfortable sleeping area. Drivers can activate this setup through the vehicle’s infotainment display, where a “lodging mode” automatically adjusts the cabin for rest.
But the transformation doesn’t stop there. Ford has also equipped the Bronco EV with a dedicated dining zone, making it a full-fledged mobile base for outdoor life. The interior includes a fold-out table, a magnetic knife strip, built-in cup holders, and even an integrated corkscrew — the kind of thoughtful touches that let owners cook and dine wherever the road takes them.
Under the hood — or rather, beneath the floor — the fully electric Bronco packs two motors producing a combined 332 kW (about 445 horsepower). Its 105.4 kWh LFP battery delivers an estimated range of up to 400 miles, positioning it among the more capable long-range EV SUVs on the market.
For drivers who want extra flexibility, Ford is also offering an Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) version. This model pairs a 1.5-liter turbocharged gas engine rated at 110 kW (147 horsepower) with two electric motors for a total output of 310 kW (416 horsepower). The smaller 43.7 kWh battery offers around 135 miles of electric-only driving, while the combination of battery and fuel tank boosts total range to an impressive 760 miles — perfect for long-distance trips or remote camping spots.

At this stage, the Bronco EV is exclusive to the Chinese market, where it’s available for pre-order. According to the source, Ford has not yet revealed pricing details or indicated whether the model will reach other regions. Still, with the global appetite for electric off-roaders and outdoor-focused vehicles growing fast, it wouldn’t be surprising to see this innovative Bronco — half SUV, half camper — make its way to other markets in the near future.
